Important planning details

Ijen combinations cover a wide region. We plan the route carefully so early starts, driving time and onward transfers remain realistic.

Starting pointsBanyuwangi and Bondowoso are the most practical Ijen bases. Surabaya, Malang and Bali transfers can be connected with additional driving time.
Physical requirementsThe Ijen climb is approximately three kilometres uphill and requires suitable health, footwear and preparation.
Menjangan & Tabuhan departureThe boat departs directly from Grand Watu Dodol, Banyuwangi. Menjangan remains part of West Bali National Park, so permits and park rules still apply.
Sukamade accessSukamade is remote and should be planned as an overnight adventure rather than a quick side trip.
Conditions may changeVolcano access, parks, boats and wildlife activities remain subject to official and natural conditions.
