The main experience

A waterfall landscape shaped by Mount Semeru

Tumpak Sewu is a broad curtain waterfall in Sidomulyo, Pronojiwo, fed by the Glidik River from the Mount Semeru area. The first experience is the panoramic viewpoint, reached by a relatively short walk from the entrance.

The route to the valley floor is very different. It follows steep stairs, wet rock and sections assisted by handrails or ropes. At the bottom, the scale and sound of the waterfall become the highlight of the journey. A local guide helps select the safest route for current conditions.

Start at the upper viewpoint for the classic curtain-waterfall panorama. Continue to the valley floor for a guided trek when the trail, river and weather conditions are suitable.

Essential experience

Travellers at Goa Tetes waterfalls and cave formations
02

Goa Tetes

Extend the valley walk towards a cave and smaller cascades along the river corridor. The extension adds wet and uneven terrain, so it is arranged according to fitness and local access.

Panorama Kapas Biru

Enjoy a quieter scenic stop in the Pronojiwo highlands. It can be added for travellers who want another landscape without committing immediately to the full Kapas Biru descent.

Plan with care

The valley rewards careful preparation

Expect wet surfaces, steep sections and changing river conditions. Wear shoes with strong grip, carry drinking water and protect electronics from spray. Travellers with limited mobility can still enjoy the upper panorama without descending to the basin.

The guide may shorten or change the route when heavy rain, high water, maintenance or local safety instructions affect access.

Before you go

Practical details for a smoother visit

Bring with you

  • Hiking shoes or sandals with strong grip
  • Quick-dry clothing and a change of clothes
  • Rain cover or waterproof phone pouch
  • Drinking water and personal medication
  • Small daypack; keep both hands available

Know before booking

  • Entrance and local guide fees are confirmed in your quotation.
  • Goa Tetes and Kapas Biru require additional time and energy.
  • Lava Tour and camping depend on local operation and safety conditions.
  • Children and older travellers need an itinerary matched to their ability.
  • Heavy rain can change or cancel the valley programme.
Our route recommendation: keep Tumpak Sewu and Kapas Biru as separate treks unless your group is fit, experienced and has enough daylight. A slower route creates more time for photographs, rest and safe footing.
